Frequently Asked Questions

AtticSpaces

What's the difference between Raised and Direct Mount?

Direct Mount panels sit directly on your exposed joists — best when insulation is at or below joist level. Raised platforms elevate the floor above your insulation using support stilts, preserving 100% of your insulation's performance. Most attics need the Raised option.

How do I know which tier is right for me?

Take our quick quiz on the homepage — it routes you to the right platform type and size based on your attic. Or call us at (214) 302-9865 and we'll help you choose.

What size should I get?

50 sq ft is enough for holiday decor, luggage, sporting gear, and seasonal bins. 100 sq ft replaces a 10x10 storage unit. 150 sq ft is maximum coverage equivalent to a 10x15 storage unit.

How long does installation take?

Most installs are completed in 2–4 hours. Your attic will be ready to use the same day.

Who are your installers?

All AtticSpaces installers are vetted local professionals, background checked and experienced in attic flooring installation.

What if my attic has unusual joist spacing?

Our panels fit standard 16" and 24" on-center joist spacing, covering the vast majority of homes. Call or text (214) 302-9865 before booking if you're unsure.

Will this affect my energy efficiency?

No. Direct Mount uses an open-grid design for airflow. Raised platforms elevate above insulation entirely. Neither option compresses insulation or traps moisture.

Can I store heavy items?

Yes. Panels are rated to 250 lbs each.

What happens on install day?

Materials ship to your address before your install date. Your installer arrives and completes the platform in a single visit. No prep needed on your end.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Cancellations before materials ship receive a full refund. Cancellations after materials ship are refunded minus material costs. Reschedules are free with 48 hours notice.

What if my attic has HVAC ducts or structural bracing?

No problem. Our modular panel system installs in sections. Your installer will work around any ducts, bracing, or obstructions to maximize usable platform space. You still get your full sq footage — just distributed across zones where needed rather than one continuous platform. This actually works better in some attics, with storage zones near the hatch and deeper in the attic.

Will the platform block access to my wiring, ducts, or gas lines?

No — that's one of the key advantages of our modular grid system. Unlike solid plywood boards, individual panels lift out in seconds giving full access to any utilities underneath. HVAC techs, electricians, and plumbers can work freely without disturbing your storage platform.

Does the platform include access from the hatch?

Yes — every install includes a 4ft access strip from your attic hatch to the storage platform at no extra charge. For attics where the storage area is more than 4ft from the hatch, your installer will assess on arrival and quote a walkway extension before starting work. Walkway extensions are priced at $12/sq ft installed or $8/sq ft for DIY orders.
